Day 01
Puno – Uros Floating Islands – Amantaní Island
At 7:30 a.m., the Flamenco Travel team will pick you up at your hotel in central Puno and take you to the port. At 8:00 a.m. you'll board the motorboat to sail across Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake, which Peru shares with Bolivia.
Our first stop is the Uros Floating Islands. These islands are made of carefully woven layers of totora reeds, which the islanders renew often so they don't fall apart. With your guide you'll learn how the islands and their reed houses are built, and how the people keep traditions such as fishing alive. The visit lasts up to an hour.
Then we'll sail for about two and a half hours to Amantaní Island, taking in the lake scenery. When we arrive, the island's families will welcome us. We'll walk about 30 minutes up the trails to their homes, where you'll settle in and share a lunch made with Andean ingredients.
In the afternoon we'll hike to the top of the island, home to the ceremonial sites of Pachatata and Pachamama, at about 4,000 m a.s.l. From there you'll have panoramic views of the lake and one of its most beautiful sunsets. After walking down, you'll have dinner with your host family.
In the evening the families hold a traditional party with music and dancing, and they lend you the island's traditional clothing so you can join in if you like. You'll spend the night at the family's home.
Day 02
Amantaní Island – Taquile Island – Puno
After breakfast, you'll say goodbye to your host family at the port. Then we'll sail for about an hour to Taquile Island.
Taquile has terraces and remains from pre-Inca times. UNESCO has recognized its traditional textile art as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With your guide we'll walk to the main square, where you'll have time to see the weaving and visit the craft shops. You'll also learn about the islanders' customs and enjoy natural lookouts over the lake.
Then we'll have lunch on Taquile. Afterward we'll walk down to the port, which includes a stretch of steps, and take the boat back to Puno. We'll arrive around 3:30 p.m. and take you to your hotel.
