City tour
Walking tour of the historic center of the White City and guided visit to the Santa Catalina Monastery
Pickup and start of the walk: at 8:45 a.m. we'll pick you up at your hotel in the historic center and start the Flamenco Travel walking city tour through the colonial streets of the White City.
Church and cloisters of La Compañía de Jesús: first we'll visit the Church of La Compañía de Jesús, known for its mestizo-style baroque facade, its carved altarpieces and its murals of tropical plants and animals. Then we'll walk through its cloisters, with carved sillar stone arches and wide corridors.
Main Square and Cathedral: next we'll head to the Main Square of Arequipa, one of the most beautiful in Peru, lined with white sillar stone arcades and palm trees. There your guide will tell you the history of the Arequipa Cathedral, one of the most important colonial buildings in the country. You'll have time to take photos.
Casa Tristán del Pozo: then we'll visit Casa Tristán del Pozo, a colonial mansion that's a great example of Arequipa's architecture, with a finely carved volcanic stone facade.
Santa Catalina Monastery: finally, we'll enter the Santa Catalina Monastery, a true "city within the city." We'll walk through its streets, squares, cloisters and cells, painted in deep blues and reds, and you'll learn what religious life was like in this cloistered convent over the centuries. The guided visit lasts about an hour, and the tour ends at the monastery at 12:00 p.m.
